How to Avoid Fake Mobile Accessories in Pakistan

A fake accessory is not simply a cheaper version of the same thing. It may use a copied shell, misleading labels and lower-grade internal components while imitating a familiar brand. The risk is greatest with chargers and power banks because poor insulation, heat control or battery protection can affect both safety and the device being charged.

The short answer: judge the seller, listing and warranty before judging the box. A serial sticker alone is not proof, and packaging that looks convincing can still contain substituted hardware.

Red flags before you buy

  • The price is far below every established seller with no clear reason.
  • The listing uses only stock images and avoids the exact model number.
  • Specifications contradict one another—for example, a cable advertised as 100W in the title and 18W in the details.
  • The seller promises “original” but offers no invoice, return policy or warranty process.
  • Brand names are misspelled, certification marks look distorted, or print quality is inconsistent.
  • The product weight, plug finish or port alignment feels noticeably different from reputable examples.

Check the exact model, not just the brand

Search the model number on the manufacturer’s official site. Compare port count, output table, included cable, colour and dimensions. Counterfeiters often combine the name of one product with the photograph or specifications of another. If the manufacturer provides a verification code, enter it only on the manufacturer’s genuine domain—not a QR destination that merely looks official.

Chargers and power banks deserve extra scrutiny

A charger’s output table should be readable and internally consistent. Multi-port models should explain how power is shared. A power bank should state capacity and usually watt-hours; an airline cannot assess an unreadable mystery battery. Avoid loose plugs, rattling enclosures, strong chemical smells and products that become abnormally hot.

For cables, appearance proves very little

Two USB-C cables can look identical while supporting different wattage and data speeds. Buy by a documented rating and model number, not by braid colour or thickness. Our USB-C cable guide explains e-markers and why “fast cable” is incomplete.

A realistic authenticity checklist

  1. Buy from a traceable retailer with a working support channel.
  2. Save the invoice and photograph the packaging before opening.
  3. Check seals, model number and specifications against the official product page.
  4. Inspect the item before connecting an expensive phone or laptop.
  5. Test charging with the intended device and stop if there is excessive heat, arcing or an unstable connection.
  6. Use the return window promptly instead of hoping suspicious behaviour will improve.

What “official warranty” should mean

Ask who handles the claim, how long coverage lasts and what proof is needed. A vague verbal promise is not the same as a written local warranty. Even authentic products can fail; the seller’s after-sales process is part of what you are paying for.

Frequently asked questions

Does a QR code prove that an accessory is original?

No. QR codes can be copied. Verify the destination domain and consider the seller, model details, invoice and warranty together.

Is a very low price always fake?

Not always—clearance and old packaging exist—but a large unexplained gap is a reason to investigate.

Can fake cables damage a phone?

Poorly built cables can cause unstable charging, heat or connector damage. High-power use deserves a documented rating.

What should I do if a new charger gets very hot?

Warmth can be normal under load, but excessive heat, smell, noise or discolouration means disconnect it and contact the seller.

How we prepared this guide: This checklist is based on manufacturer-verification practices, charging-safety principles and recurring authenticity questions from accessory shoppers. It is guidance, not a guarantee based on packaging alone. We do not claim laboratory or long-term hands-on testing unless a page explicitly says so. Product availability and specifications can change, so confirm the current listing before ordering.
