Fast Charger Guide for Pakistan: Watts, PD, PPS and GaN Explained

UGREEN 100W four-port GaN fast charger

TechAndExperts Product Team |

A charger does not force its full printed wattage into your phone. With a properly implemented charging standard, the phone and charger negotiate a compatible power level. That is why a good 65W or 100W USB-C charger can safely charge a phone that accepts much less—while still being useful for a tablet or laptop.

The short answer: choose the charging protocol first, then enough wattage, then the right cable. For most phones, 20W to 30W is compact and sufficient. A 45W to 65W charger suits faster Samsung devices, tablets and many ultrabooks. A 100W multi-port model makes sense when one charger must run several devices.

What the labels mean

Term Meaning Why it matters
USB Power Delivery (PD) A widely used USB-C charging standard Important for current iPhones, tablets and many laptops
PPS Programmable Power Supply adjusts voltage in smaller steps Used by compatible Samsung fast-charging modes
GaN Gallium nitride power electronics Can make high-output chargers smaller and more efficient
Total output Combined maximum across ports May be divided when multiple devices are connected

Pick the wattage around your devices

  • 20W: practical for iPhones and everyday USB-C phones.
  • 30W: adds headroom for larger phones, small tablets and some compact laptops.
  • 45W: relevant to compatible Samsung Super Fast Charging and many tablets.
  • 65W: a versatile phone-plus-laptop choice for many USB-C notebooks.
  • 100W: useful for power-hungry laptops or multi-device desks, provided the ports and cable support the required output.

Apple states that supported iPhones can fast-charge with a compatible USB-C adapter and that iPhone 12, iPhone SE (3rd generation) and later need at least 20W for fast charging. Samsung’s current adapters use PD/PPS, but the exact maximum varies by model. Always check your device manual instead of assuming every phone with USB-C accepts the same speed.

Multi-port chargers have a catch

A “100W” four-port charger may deliver close to 100W from one specific USB-C port when used alone, then redistribute power when a second device is connected. Read the port diagram. Put the laptop on the highest-output USB-C port and the phone or watch on a lower-output port.

The cable is part of the charging system

A capable charger paired with a low-rated or damaged cable may charge slowly. Above certain power levels, USB-C cables need an electronic marker (e-marker) that identifies their capabilities. See our USB-C cable guide for the difference between charging wattage and data speed.

What we would buy for a mixed-device household

For one phone, keep it simple with a reputable power adapter that supports the phone’s protocol. For a phone, tablet and laptop, compare our GaN fast chargers. The UGREEN X564 100W four-port charger is designed for a multi-device setup; buyers needing only a phone should not pay for ports they will not use.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 100W charger damage my 20W phone?

A standards-compliant charger and phone negotiate power. Buy reputable hardware and use an intact compatible cable.

Why does charging slow down near 80 percent?

Phones commonly reduce power as the battery fills to manage heat and battery health.

Does GaN automatically mean faster charging?

No. GaN describes the charger technology; the supported protocol, port output, device and cable determine speed.

Can one charger replace my laptop and phone bricks?

Often yes, if its single-port output meets the laptop requirement and it supports the devices’ protocols.

How we prepared this guide: We used current Apple and Samsung charging guidance, USB standards terminology and live charger specifications. Device makers remain the authority for model-specific limits. We do not claim laboratory or long-term hands-on testing unless a page explicitly says so.
